Kyler Brengle is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned both a BS and MS in Music Education. He earned an MS in School Counseling and Administrative Certification from McDaniel College (then Western Maryland College). After serving as band director at South Carroll High School from 1976–1985, his career path took him places other than music settings but he remained active in church vocal and handbell choirs.
Kyler began directing Wesley Carillon in the fall of 2010. As only the 5th director since Wesley Carillon’s founding in 1982, he seeks to present a balance of handbell selections in worship, either those based on familiar hymn tunes or original handbell compositions that are appropriate for the various seasons of the church year. His interest in arranging music for handbells resulted in arrangements for several local church handbell choirs, including WUMC, and a recent publishing of his arrangement of Angels We Have Heard on High. Additionally, he has served on the faculty for local handbell events as well as Area 3 Festivals.
Kyler has served as an At-Large Member and Chair of the Handbell Musicians of America (HMA) Area 3 Board. Additionally, he completed multiple certification areas offered by HMA: Handbell Techniques, Conducting, Music Theory, History of Handbells and Handbells in Worship.
